Research and planning

Complete the following as an extended blog post or a selection of five blog posts:
  1. Find five programmes similar to the idea or genre you want to produce.
  2. Write an analysis of a two-minute opening sequence using everything you have learned about film language (camera work, sound, mise-en-scene etc.) for each of the five.
  3. Research the target audience for each show and produce your own assessment of who each show appeals to and why.

My first program that is similar to the idea/genre that we are choosing to produce is dispatches. This is similar to out idea as we are choosing to do a docu-drama on gang crime. Although dispatches is shown after 9 pm therefore is not water shared  the way in which it is presented is how we are deciding to. Dispatches focuses mainly on the importance of what happens in everyday life around the world, as of what we are planning to do by visiting youth offenders etc.
Dispatches is shown on channel 4 usually at 9 pm, this shows that it is for the older target audience around the age of 16-25. Therefore the target audience is different from ours as ours must be water shared we are not allowed to use swearing or any violent scenes.

My second program is Crime watch  the genre of this is crime and justice as well as  this is similar to our plan as it shows currents affairs of the outside world and what is happening. However it is different as crime watch tries catching criminals and gives detail numbers which we are not doing as we are trying to just inform people of gang crime and the dangers of it. Also the genre's are similar as ours is also factual as we are also showing the effects of crime and having people to talk about how the feel and what they have been through. The target audience for this show is 28-45 this is because it is not water shared and is shown after 9 pm, also violence is shown as well as swearing and crimes scenes.

The third program that I will analysis is top boy. This is because Top Boy is shown on channel 4 or E4, which is what my group are planning to show our production on. This show focuses on teenagers and gangs in estates. Although top boy  is different from our idea and it shows bad sides of crimes and the consequences. We are aiming to show some bad sides however putting it into a docudrama we are planning to show how lives have changed and people have reformed them selves after hitting rock bottom, e.g. going prison. Ours will be watershed therefore must be appropriate for children, where as top boy is not watershed and usually comes on after 9 pm. The target audience for this show is  older teenagers and young adults, 16-25. The reason for this is that it is not watershed also it has got a great deal of drug use, violence, sexual reference and swearing (inappropriate for under 16s).
