Christmas holidays: Task 4

detailed research into media institutions/channels (E4, BBC3, C4, etc.) that might broadcast your program. Identify their audience, typical programs, audience ratings, history, etc. Write up a blog post with detailed research on at least two institutions/channels.

E4 and E4+1
- I am researching E4 as it is a popular channel which without a doubt will show our program. The main target audience for E4 is 16-44 year old  the reason for this is that a lot of their programs contain adult humor and after 9 pm there is a great deal of swearing and sex references therefore would not be entirely suitable for under 16's. E4 are also aware that their audience members are a variety of men and women who are fashion conscious, sociable  heavy internet users, love going out and tend to use advertising as one of their many information sources. Typical programs on this channel are programs such as The big ban theory, how i met your mother, two broke girls, new girl, misfits, skins. These are all adult humor programs, although The big bang theory and How i met your mother both contain a great deal of adult humor and minor sex references it is watershed and can be shown both before and after 9 pm however programs such as misfits and skins must be shown after 9 pm as there is a great deal on sexual context, violence, swearing and drugs; not only that but it also shows all of these things in a wrong way as a good thing therefore making it inappropriate to be shown before 9 pm. E4 and E4+1 have reached over 8.9m viewers each month and have also got an young and upmarket viewing profile.

Channel 4
- The second channel that I am researching is Channel 4, although it is highly related with E4, channel 4 has a very different approach with its target audience etc. Channel 4 was first launched in 1982 as an ad funded public service broadcaster for audiences not served by BBC or ITV therefore believes it has always been different. The target audience for channel for is mainly 16-44 year old. They aim to show provocative documentaries, original and best reality TV and mould breaking comedy such as 'chatty man:Alan Carr'. Channel 4 is also much more trend setting, controversial (in a good way), provocative, innovative and ground breaking than any other terrestrial channel. Channel 4 is very popular with the audience as they have got 11.6 million 16-34 year olds viewing each month.
